The reader who told me about her "potato chip sign" sent me an image of it. Ohmigosh, it really DOES look like the jewelry she makes!
She writes that a friend has been giving her a hard time about all the "signs" she's seeing.
Yeah. We creative types, we get that a lot.
My DH is an extremely non-religious person, and for awhile he had trouble with my "what is the universe telling me?" thing, too. "It's not telling you anything!" he exclaimed. "You just have to figure out what you want to do, not look for "signs"."
I thought for awhile and told him this: It ticks me off how scientists are always talking about how an entity "evolved" this and "evolved" that. That's a Lamarckian view of evolution, and evolution doesn't work that way.
He said yes, but it was just a verbal shorthand for the real process of natural selection.
I said, so when I talk about "signs" from the universe, it's the same thing--a verbal shorthand for a process that takes too long to repeat everytime I refer to it.
I don't really think the universe is signalling me or writing letters. I still have my extremely pragmatic mind, and I know that isn't what's happening.
It's just like when it's time to put a new roof on your house and you have to decide if you're going to go with a new color or the old color. Suddenly, you find yourself looking at the roofs of houses, something you never paid too much attention to before.
And you notice that some roofs look good. And some roofs look stupid. "Why on earth did they pick THAT color? WHAT were they thinking?" You find yourself driving around town with your husband, looking a roofs. Who knew there were so many choices? Who knew you could have a strong response to a roof?? Your world before being roof-aware seems...lacking. (Okay, I'm exaggerating, but it IS funny how much more we notice roofs now.)
We also tend to remember the "coincidences" that are astounding because they ARE astounding. If they weren't, we wouldn't remember them. There was a time in my life when I never knew if my car would start or not. Every time it started was a blessing. I have a reliable car now, and I hardly ever think of that.
I understand I CHOOSE to take a certain path, and suddenly I am OPEN to the things I can see along that path. Opportunities I simply couldn't see before. Possibilities I wasn't open to.
That in itself is a powerful place to be. You sense it in people who are following their heart. They FEEL grounded and excited in a way that simply reeks of energy. They are wonderful to be around--they give off "good vibes." You can feel their response to the world--"Yes. Yes! YES!!"
Conversely, you can sense people who are blocking that. They feel trapped. They are resentful and small-minded. They are draining to be around. They are closed to possibility. You can sense the "no" in everything they do.
My husband understands me better now, and is relieved my feet are still both firmly planted on the ground. And he certainly knows that experience, too--knowing like a good choice can not only simply FEEL right, it can FLOW right.
So go ahead and enjoy those "messages". They may not mean there is divine intervention going on (unless that is important to you.) But it DOES mean you are seeing the world with fresh eyes and an open heart.
And that's not too shabby, either!
