My darlin’ husband just told me he’d read one of my blogs and squirmed uncomfortably at my talking so much about “signs from the universe.” He just doesn’t believe life works that way.
Well, that’s okay. I’m not sure I believe it does, either.
When I talk about something being a “sign”, I don’t mean God has posted a memo on my computer that morning telling me what to do each day. And I don’t believe the universe micromanages my life.
But once you are moving along a path, I think it’s possible to be more MINDFUL of that path. And I think this process is a good thing.
We start to see things that appear to support the decision we've made to walk that pat. And that’s comforting to me.
My mother once pointed this out to me. She and my dad had to put a new roof on their house. They hadn’t had to pick out a roof color in 30 years. And as they drove around town in their car, they started to notice the color of other people’s roofs. Something they’d never paid much attention to before, but now they felt that roof color choices were highly noticeable. “I never realized how many different roofs--and odd roofs--were out there,” she mused.
In the same way, once you think of a way to begin something new, you may notice synchronicity or serendipity. You’ll mention to someone you’re developing a new strategy and they’ll say they know someone who's tried the same thing. Or they read an article on the topic last week. You’ll think about a problem that needs to be overcome, and find the solution in an equipment catalog that comes in the mail that day. Maybe even a catalog you've never really looked at before. You’ll express an interest in learning a new skill and your friend will say, “I’ve always wanted to learn that, too! My brother knows how to do that. You wanna ask him to teach us together?”
If you’d picked something else, then you’d see different things. That’s all.
I just prefer to see these supportive events with a full and happy heart, and therefore I choose to see them as affirmation for my actions. I like to think that the universe needs my creative actions to balance the evil in the world, and that it moves to support my efforts.
After all, physics says that when we jump up, as we fall back down, the earth actually leaps infinitesimally to meet us as well (as gravity is the interaction between the mass of ANY two bodies.)
So if the earth can rise up to meet me when I leap, why is it so hard to believe this other stuff?
