Today I was running around town dropping off posters and brochures for the upcoming League of NH Craftsmen's Open Studio Tour. In a fit of inspiration, I also left a few postcards with my picture on them. This is the Steve Dunwell portrait that appeared in AmericanStyle magazine earlier this year. You can also see it on my home page at www.luannudell.com
I'm the only League artist in Keene on the tour, so I thought that would help people figure out they should come to MY studio first.
My first stop was a coffee shop, Prime Roast, run by our friends John and Judy Rogers. They're quite a watering-hole in town, and it's a good place to leave such announcements.
I drove around to a few more locations, then swung back to our public library.
As I got out of the car, the woman in the car next to me got out, too. She called, "Luann...?"
I didn't know her, so I said, "Yeah?"
She said, "Luann Udell?"
I looked at her closer. I still didn't recognize her, but you all know the state my brain is in lately. "Yes, that's me. Do I know you?"
"Oh, no!" she laughed. "I didn't mean to freak you out. I just picked up your postcard a few minutes ago, and I was trying to figure out if that was really you. And it is!"
She had just been in Prime Roast and gotten a postcard there.
Well, we know the postcards work now.
And I think that is the very first time someone has recognized me from my publicity photos.
I'm a celebrity!
Qualifications: In Keene, NH.
And within five minutes of someone seeing the actual postcard.
I have a funny feeling she may not have been able to do that with the Glamour Shots photo....
