Sometimes it's hard to figure out what we should focus on. If you're like me, it can be hard to maintain that focus for long, even if you find it!
But if it helps you get through a month, a week...in fact, even if it helps you get through a DAY, it's worth thinking about.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about a conversation I had with a west coast artist. She was the one who said I was marketing the right art to the wrong part of the country. She assures me that if I can get a foothold (a bigger foothold) out west, the southwest, and the northwest, I will see a whole new movement on my work. And that I will be feeling better about everything when that happens.
It gave me something to focus on--the upcoming ACRE show, held in Las Vegas from May 1-4.
Last week, several opportunities crossed my path. A state guild exhibit I could probably get into, a regional arts organization I could get more involved in. They're local, they're easy, they could do good things for my art.
Or....??
As I thought of Ruth's words, I realized what I REALLY should do next.
I spent the weekend uploading images of my work to Wholesalecrafts.com's on-line catalog. (This is a site where retail store owners and galleries can browse and shop for American handcraft.)
I realized the best thing I can do right now is to not worry about what's in my backyard. The people who like my work in New England and on the east coast can find me pretty well already. My time and energy can be better spent now on marketing outside my own region.
It's not a big thing. But it's enough to help me get through the weekend.
