I'm not the only myopic artist out there this week.
Someone posted to an on-line forum, complaining that they hadn't heard back from a show promoter on a show they've signed on to do in October. Had anyone else had problems with this show organizer?
The show is in Houston.
Others were quick to point out the poster's lack of sensitivity, but I held back. After all, yesterday I myself tried to call a store in Houston to tell them their order was going to be late. (In my defense, I got it when I saw the city name, though.)
We all have senior moments, some at younger ages than others, and we get extreme tunnel-vision occasionally. But more importantly, this is an excellent example of how NOT to make assumptions.
No one answers the phone, and the artist assumes the show organizer is a bozo head, when really a class 5 hurricane named Rita is barreling down on the poor guy's city.
This is an extreme case, of course. And sometimes the show organizer IS a bozo head.
But it's also a good idea to keep an open mind until more facts are gathered.
