A dear friend sent me a special letter and the gift of a special book this week.
The book is Anna Quindlen's book BEING PERFECT. Ms. Quindlen asks us to look at the choices we make every day and ask why we are making them. Because it's what's expected of us? Because it's what we need to do to make friends, family and lovers happy? Because we want to be "perfect"?
The real answer, she says, should be, "Because it's what I wish for and who I want to be."
Easier said than done, of course, but then, that is what a person trapped by the perceptions of other people's eyes WOULD say.
I know I'm not alone in feeling like the only thing holding me upright is all the things I've promised to do for other people.
And it's not always easy sorting out what would make ME happy, because sometimes making OTHER people happy is what makes ME happy.
But I get the point about being perfect.
It's time to REALLY let go of the idea that I will have a "perfect presence" at the ACC show. And just do what I can, with the beautiful work I have in hand.
